Draughtsman – South-East of JHB (Central)

💰 R25 000 – R35 000 (Based on Experience, Qualification, & skills)
🕒 Monday – Thursday: 08h00 – 17h00 | Friday: 08h00 – 14h00
Location: Workshop & Office | No overtime | No weekend work | No medical aid

Our client, based in the South-East of Johannesburg Central, operates within the retail, commercial, and domestic markets across South Africa. Their projects range from: Shopfitting, Kitchens, built-in cupboards, studies, and vanities, bespoke furniture pieces to client specification and Furniture ranges for national retailers. They are seeking a skilled Draughtsman to join their Design & Production department.
🎯 Purpose of the Role
The Draughtsman will be responsible for producing accurate technical drawings and 3D models for bespoke timber furniture and shopfitting projects. This role bridges the creative vision of designers and clients with the practical requirements of the workshop, ensuring designs are manufactural, cost-effective, and meet quality standards.
The role reports to the Design Manager / Production Manager and is based between the workshop and office.

🛠 Key Responsibilities
• Prepare detailed 2D and 3D technical drawings for custom furniture and shopfitting projects.
• Translate design concepts and client requirements into production-ready drawings.
• Work closely with designers, project managers, and carpenters to ensure feasibility and accuracy.
• Maintain drawing standards, templates, and libraries.
• Revise drawings based on feedback from clients, designers, and workshop staff.
• Ensure compliance with safety, ergonomic, and material specifications.
• Provide cutting lists, assembly instructions, and material schedules for production.
• Liaise with suppliers regarding fittings, fixtures, and materials.
• Support site installation teams with technical documentation and drawings.

📐 Skills & Competencies
• Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SketchUp, or similar).
• Strong understanding of timber materials, joinery techniques, and furniture construction.
• Ability to interpret design briefs and convert them into practical technical solutions.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Proactive problem-solving ability.
• Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.

🎓 Qualifications & Experience
• Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in furniture design, shopfitting, or a related industry.
• Experience working with timber and bespoke furniture manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of CNC machinery and production workflows (advantageous).
