Junior Utilities Engineer Johannesburg
Our client, a respected engineering consultancy based in Johannesburg, is on the hunt for an experienced Junior Utilities Engineer to join their world-class team.
Are you a hands-on, solutions-driven engineer with a passion for cutting-edge utilities systems? We’re on the hunt for a Utilities Engineer who’s ready to take ownership of full-cycle project delivery across the FMCG and mining sectors—from conceptual design to commissioning.
This is your chance to join a specialist engineering consultancy working on diverse, high-impact utilities projects locally and across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
This role calls for a dynamic individual who can work towards being able to seamlessly manage process design, execution, and project leadership. You’ll take ownership of end-to-end delivery, including system design, budgets, client liaison, and the co-ordination of multi-disciplinary teams. A focus on utility systems—steam, CO₂, refrigeration, water treatment, compressed air, and effluent—is essential.

🌟 What You’ll Be Responsible For and work towards doing:
Delivering professional consulting engineering services and executing utilities packages that include—but are not limited to—refrigeration, water treatment, steam, compressed air, CO₂, and effluent treatment, both as stand-alone solutions and integrated into multi-disciplinary environments.

💼 Key Responsibilities:
• Prepare detailed designs, calculations, budgets, tenders, and project documentation
• Manage utilities scope across the entire project lifecycle—from inception to completion
• Collaborate with internal multi-disciplinary engineering teams
• Take lead on client engagement, project timelines, and team co-ordination
• Independently manage project execution with minimal oversight
• Foster client relationships to ensure repeat work and expand client base
• Oversee internal financials: forecasts, WIP, invoicing, and fee agreements

🎓 Qualifications & Experience:
• BSc Eng. or BTech in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
• Pr Eng/Pr Tech registration is a strong advantage
• 5 years of consulting engineering experience in FMCG and/or mining sectors

⚙️ You’ll Need to Be Proficient In:
• Conceptual design and scope definition
• PFDs, P&IDs, datasheets, detail design, and tender documentation
• Process and mechanical equipment specification
• Interdisciplinary coordination for scopes and proposals
• Site travel for inspections and commissioning (including internationally)
• Writing Process Descriptions, FDS documents, and managing design reviews/HAZOP
• Construction verification and handover documentation
• Autodesk BIM (Revit, Navisworks, Glue, Field) and CAD tools
• Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)

• A self-starter with strong time management and attention to detail
• Able to work independently and own your scope with confidence
• Technically curious with a solid understanding of the latest utilities technologies
• Comfortable in client-facing situations and multidisciplinary project meetings
• A strong communicator (written and verbal) with a knack for relationship building
• Willing and able to travel across RSA and Africa
• Must have a valid driver’s license and own reliable transport
