Portfolio Accountant  Needed for Property Development Company in Midrand                                                                              

Salary: R30 000- R35 000 Gross

  • The Senior Administrator will form a close working relationship with the Head of Finance and the finance team
  • The Senior Administrator is responsible for all aspects of the financial department, ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures
  • He/she oversees the day-to-day work of the finance department and is responsible for the effective use and deployment of staff and financial resources
  • Take control of the company’s accounting functions
  • Lead and develop finance teams
  • Ensure payments and expenses are checked against budgets
  • Submit monthly and annual accounts as required
  • Ensure that the regulatory requirements of all statutory bodies are met


  • Supervise financial staff in the facilitation of day-to-day operations, including tracking financial data, invoicing.
  • Prepare official reports on a monthly and annual basis
  • Maintain a policy manual for the Finance department
  • Ensure all financial deadlines are met daily, weekly and monthly

SPECIFIC JOB FUNCTIONS:                                                                               

  • Produce monthly finance & management reports to agreed time scales
  • Produce financial reports detailing actual expenditure & supplier payment report
  • Vat Reconciliation
  • Engage with SARS – Resolve audit queries, Vat Audits – Detailed and summary reports, submission of documents and manage queries
  • Ensure implementation and adherence to finance policies, procedures and systems across all teams
  • Ensure that all balance sheet reconciliations are produced monthly on an accurate and timely basis to include bank reconciliations, debtors, creditors, VAT and inter – company accounts
  • Manage the day-to-day functions and workflow of the finance department ensuring compliance to all policies and procedures
  • Check and verify all payment and transfer batches ensuring the necessary checks were performed
  • Payments – Capture ad hoc payments, verify banking details for all new suppliers
  • Bond Accounts – Capture interest, Reconciliations, Reports
  • Municipal Accounts – Manage municipal accounts function, ensure that monthly reports, payments and recons are done monthly including the summary schedule and detail per account schedule
  • Rental Deposits – Manage and ensure strict compliance to all relevant acts as well as monitor and control the Update of the deposit schedule, Interest Calculation, Admin Fee billing, Refund Control and Reconciliation
  • Rentals General – Manage and assist with the Pre-Billing checks, Monthly Billing, Supplier Full function Control, Tenant Queries and Supplier Queries
  • Ensure banks are captured and reconciled daily for all companies and estates
  • Upload Debit Order Batches for collection into banking platform
  • Capture year end journals and reconcile to auditors TB
  • Reconcile sale accounts and ensure all GL, supplier and clients balances are in order
  • Reviewing all bank reconciliations
  • Monitoring supplier debit balances and forwarding to all to capture invoices
  • Ensure finance team meets all targets and deadlines
  • Ensure all estates are fully captured and processed by the 15th monthly


  • Highly numerate and able to analyse statistical information and interpret financial data to produce reports which can be understood by non – financial colleagues
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and correct anomalies and errors
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Computer literate; fully conversant with the current uses of information technology in the workplace and uses IT as a management tool
  • Ability to handle high levels of pressure and critical decision-making
  • Ability to work on and keep track of multiple accounts/GL’s/companies at any one time
  • Experience in the preparation and finalisation of accounts in accordance with current South African regulations
  • Knowledge of strategic and financial planning including activity costing, benchmarking and KPIs
  • Ability to work at both a detailed and strategic level – e.g. making payments and producing annual financial delivery plans etc.

·         Knowledge of management accounting methods and practices applicable to management  
·         Financial Accounting degree/ diploma or equivalent on the job training      
·         In-depth knowledge of financial software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and/or word processing required. Packages include: Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word plus company-specific accounting & reporting packages and/or word processing required.

·         At least 5 years managerial and financial experience
