Senior Technical Designer for Retail Projects – Cape Town

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Technical Designer to join our dynamic team, working on cutting-edge retail projects. This is a senior-level position that requires expertise in technical design, project management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to create engaging and high-quality retail environments. You will be responsible for the technical aspects of design implementation, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the technical design and execution of retail projects from concept to completion, including providing support to the design and production teams.
• Develop technical drawings, specifications, and construction documents for retail spaces, ensuring compliance with local building codes and regulations.
• Collaborate closely with architects, interior designers, engineers, and project managers to develop detailed design solutions and ensure successful project execution.
• Conduct site assessments and coordinate with contractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure that design intentions are implemented accurately.
• Provide technical guidance on materials, finishes, and product specifications to ensure the feasibility and functionality of retail installations.
• Review and refine design solutions based on feasibility, cost, and production requirements, addressing any technical challenges.
• Oversee prototype creation and evaluate design functionality to ensure it meets client needs and design vision.
• Lead the creation of mockups, samples, and material boards for client presentation and approval.
• Review budgets and timelines, ensuring design and technical aspects of the project are within scope and aligning with company goals.
• Provide ongoing support throughout the installation phase, coordinating with all stakeholders and addressing technical issues as they arise.
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior designers and other team members, sharing knowledge and best practices.
• Stay up to date with industry trends, technologies, and innovations, integrating new ideas and solutions into projects.
Skills & Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in technical design, preferably in retail, interior, or architectural design.
• Strong proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Rhino, SketchUp, Revit, or similar).
• Expertise in technical drawing, 3D modeling, and rendering.
• BIM Management and Models
• In-depth knowledge of materials, construction techniques, and manufacturing processes used in retail environments.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• A deep understanding of the retail sector and the ability to translate brand concepts into compelling, functional design solutions.
• Ability to think critically and solve complex design problems in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and a proactive, solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
• Experience in managing client relationships and ensuring client satisfaction with final deliverables.
