Town & Regional Planner Needed for Established Landscape Architectural Practice based in Cape Town

We are a dynamic Landscape Architectural practice based just outside the Cape Town CBD, dedicated to creating sustainable, people-focused environments that enhance communities and celebrate natural systems. Our multidisciplinary team works on a wide range of large local as well as international projects, spanning public spaces, urban design, environmental planning, and development frameworks. We are expanding and seeking a motivated Town and Regional Planner who is passionate about shaping resilient, inclusive, and well-designed places.
Position Overview
As a Town and Regional Planner in our landscape architecture studio, you will collaborate closely with landscape architects, urban designers, and environmental specialists. You will contribute essential planning expertise across a range of local and global projects, from concept development to statutory approvals.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and manage planning applications, development proposals, and regulatory submissions.
• Conduct land-use assessments, spatial analysis, and site development feasibility studies.
• Provide strategic planning insight to support landscape and urban design projects.
• Liaise with clients, local authorities, and stakeholders throughout project stages.
• Interpret planning policies, environmental legislation, and municipal frameworks.
• Assist in the preparation of master plans, precinct plans, and development frameworks.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary design discussions with a strong understanding of planning principles.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Town & Regional Planning (or equivalent).
• Professional registration or eligibility for registration with SACPLAN (or relevant planning council).
• 2–5 years’ experience in spatial planning, land-use planning, or related fields (landscape/urban design exposure beneficial).
• Strong understanding of planning legislation, policies, and development processes.
• Proficiency in GIS, CAD, or design software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, AutoCAD, InDesign) is an advantage.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a creative, fast-paced environment.

Salary Market Related Depending on the Candidate’s current salary, skills, experience, qualifications, etc.
