About the Opportunity
Our client is a dynamic and fast-growing organisation specialising in the design, development and delivery of innovative hospitality and commercial environments across South Africa.
They are currently looking to appoint an experienced and creative Interior Designer who is passionate about designing engaging customer spaces and delivering exceptional project outcomes. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of hospitality, restaurant and commercial projects from initial concept through to final installation.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
• Creating innovative interior concepts that align with client objectives, brand standards and operational requirements.
• Developing mood boards, concept presentations, material palettes and visual design proposals.
• Translating client briefs into functional, aesthetically appealing and commercially practical environments.
• Planning and optimising hospitality and commercial spaces, ensuring efficient customer flow and operational functionality.
• Reviewing layouts to maximise seating capacity, circulation, service efficiency and overall user experience.
• Producing or assisting with technical documentation including plans, elevations, detailing and design specifications.
• Compiling FF&E schedules, finish schedules and procurement documentation.
• Researching and sourcing furniture, finishes, lighting, décor and accessories.
• Coordinating with suppliers, contractors and consultants regarding pricing, samples, availability and lead times.
• Supporting procurement activities, delivery schedules and project implementation.
• Conducting site inspections and attending project meetings as required.
• Monitoring site progress to ensure design intent and quality standards are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
• Identifying on-site challenges and assisting in developing practical and cost-effective solutions.
• Ensuring projects are delivered within approved budgets and established timelines.
• Maintaining a consistent design quality while adapting concepts to suit individual project requirements.
Minimum Requirements
• Diploma or Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 2–4 years’ professional experience within interior design.
• Previous experience within hospitality, retail, commercial or restaurant environments will be highly advantageous.
• Strong understanding of space planning, finishes, lighting, furniture and interior detailing.
• Experience collaborating with suppliers, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Ability to interpret architectural drawings and technical documentation.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) or similar software.
• Excellent presentation and communication skills.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites when required.
Advantageous Experience
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:
• Restaurant, café, hotel or hospitality design projects.
• Shopfitting, custom joinery and bespoke furniture design.
• Working with local South African suppliers and contractors.
• Hospitality operational requirements and industry regulations.
• Preparation of FF&E schedules and procurement documentation.
