A leading large-scale commercial architectural practice is seeking a highly experienced Principal Consultant / Architect to be based in Cape Town, supporting the delivery of major architectural projects.
This role was initially envisioned as a senior leadership position contributing to both project delivery and the re-establishment of a Cape Town office presence, including aspects of business development. Due to project-driven timeframes, the primary focus has shifted to immediate project delivery, specifically fulfilling a Site Architect / Site Representative function on large-scale developments. Broader business development responsibilities may evolve over time but are secondary at this stage.
Key Responsibilities
• Act as Site Architect / Site Representative on large, complex architectural projects.
• Interface professionally with large contractors, consultants, and client teams, including navigating contractor systems, processes, and reporting requirements.
• Ensure architectural intent, quality, and compliance are maintained throughout construction.
• Coordinate and resolve site-based design, technical, and construction issues efficiently.
• Work within Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) environments to support site and project delivery.
• Manage project-related administration directly, given the initial satellite nature of the Cape Town presence.
Minimum Requirements
• Professionally qualified Architect or Architectural Technologist
(or demonstrable proof of suitable industry experience to justify consideration).
• 12–15+ years’ experience on large-scale architectural projects.
• Proven, hands-on experience as a Site Architect / Site Representative on major developments.
• Strong experience interfacing with large contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
• Working knowledge of Revit suitable to site and delivery requirements.
• Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) experience is essential.
• Hospitality project experience is advantageous but secondary to strong site-based experience.
Important Considerations
• This position will initially operate as a satellite presence in Cape Town.
• The successful candidate must be comfortable handling their own administrative tasks, as there will be no dedicated administrative support locally at the outset.
• This role will best suit a senior professional who remains hands-on, delivery-focused, and adaptable.
