Job Title: Architectural Design Manager – Technical Coordination
Position Overview:
The Senior Architectural Technologist will lead the technical execution of architectural projects and product development, ensuring seamless delivery from design to completion. This pivotal role ensures compliance with standards, maintains high-quality outputs, and drives cross-department collaboration. The Technologist will oversee the development of technical drawings, guide junior staff, and work closely with leadership to align project goals, optimize workflows, and ensure successful product and project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Project Ownership & Technical Coordination:
o Oversee the technical aspects of multiple architectural projects, ensuring all designs, technical drawings, and documentation meet high standards of quality and compliance.
o Act as the primary point of coordination between the architectural design team and other departments (e.g., structural engineering, industrial design, sales, and manufacturing).
o Manage project workflows to ensure seamless integration of all components and timely delivery of all project stages.
2. Technical Drawing & Modeling:
o Lead the development and refinement of architectural models and drawing packages using industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
o Resolve complex technical details, ensuring that all drawings are accurate, clear, and comply with relevant codes and standards.
o Provide technical support and guidance to junior architectural technologists, helping them improve their modeling, drawing, and technical skills.
3. Design & Compliance Oversight:
o Ensure that all designs comply with local and international building codes, safety standards, and regulations.
o Research and recommend appropriate materials based on design, performance, and budget considerations.
o Integrate energy-efficient design principles, thermal performance, and sustainable building practices into all architectural projects.
4. Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
o Foster strong working relationships with various departments (e.g., structural engineering, sales, industrial design, manufacturing) to ensure alignment and effective communication across teams.
o Provide technical input during design development, troubleshooting challenges, and ensuring all departments are synchronized to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
5. Mentorship & Development of Junior Technologists:
o Mentor junior architectural technologists, guiding them in their professional development and enhancing their technical abilities and project management skills.
o Ensure that junior staff follow best practices for technical drawing, design development, and project coordination, while contributing to their overall growth within the department.
6. Quality Control & Continuous Improvement:
o Maintain a strong focus on quality assurance by reviewing technical documentation, drawings, and models to ensure accuracy and compliance.
o Identify areas for improvement within project workflows and recommend solutions to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and reduce potential risks or delays.
7. Architectural Management & Reporting:
o Work closely with senior leadership to ensure the consistent management and reporting of project progress, challenges, and key milestones.
o Regularly update leadership on the status of ongoing projects, ensuring transparency in terms of timelines, resource allocation, and project goals.
o Assist in aligning departmental goals, priorities, and strategies to ensure that all team efforts are directed towards successful project completion.
8. Control Sheet and Workflow Tracking:
o Track all architectural deliverables, including technical drawings and models, using a control sheet to manage each task’s estimated hours and deadlines.
o Use the control sheet as an early warning system to identify potential delays and adjust resources to ensure projects stay on schedule.
o Ensure that the control sheet is accessible to all relevant stakeholders, including junior staff and leadership, to maintain transparency and effective project tracking.
Key Strengths & Qualifications:
• Proven experience in architectural design, technical detailing, and project ownership.
• Proficiency in technical drawing, modeling, and coordination with a deep understanding of building codes, material specifications, and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments and teams.
• Strong problem-solving abilities, with a focus on continuous improvement and optimizing project workflows.
• Experience in mentoring and developing junior staff to enhance their technical and project management skills.
• A proactive approach to managing complex technical aspects of projects and ensuring the successful delivery of all architectural outputs.
Skills & Competencies:
• Expertise in industry-standard design software (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).
• In-depth knowledge of energy-efficient design principles, sustainable building practices, and thermal performance.
• Strong understanding of building systems, material properties, and construction techniques.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
• Ability to maintain a high standard of quality in all aspects of project delivery, from design to completion.
